I am so glad I found the comments section on EconTalk recently too, I have listened to EconTalk for probably a decade now but never looked at the comments. I now have to go and read Checkov’s The Bet, we discussed with my partner and kids last night about how small does a prison have to be to be a prison, the size of a cell, a house, a town, a country, a planet… does the fact that because in theory we could leave planet earth not make it a prison even though the chance of any one person doing that is vanishing small? I’d love to know Russ’ take on Grapes of Wrath, when I read it in my late 30’s, it had a huge impact on me in terms of this can’t really have been a good way to advance society, but I have always been a bit of a bleeding heart leftie. I always love Russ’ takes on fiction, the Master and Man episode a while back was excellent, I haven’t read any Towle’s books but will do so.
